In a thrilling announcement, Netflix, and the esteemed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali have confirmed the renewal of their captivating series “Heeramandi” for a second season. Following its brilliant premiere on May 1st, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” swiftly rose to eminence, claiming the top spot in Netflix’s global non-English TV rankings across 43 countries and emerging as the most-watched Indian series worldwide.
Bhansali stated his delight at the show’s success: “It’s been a joy to see the show resonate with audiences worldwide, and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Netflix. I’m happy to announce that we’ll be back with season 2.”
The first season delivered viewers to the 1940s, exploring the lives of courtesans in Lahore. The series, featuring Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha among others, was praised for its rich storytelling and compelling performances.
Looking ahead to the second season, Bhansali uncovered an exciting shift in the narrative. He said, “In ‘Heeramandi 2,’ the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry.”
