BJP’s Member of Parliament Om Birla was elected as Lok Sabha speaker in the battle of heavyweights. Birla defeated Indi Alliances’ candidate K Suresh in a voice vote.
The election was the first in the last 48 years after the Congress-led united opposition accused the ruling NDA of rebuffing them.
